Devon Long House

Devon long houses can be found throughout the county and especially in the Dartmoor area. Often dating back to the 15th and 16th centuries, these long narrow dwellings are often thatched and some of them can rented out as holiday cottages or have been converted to Bed and Breakfast guest houses.

The original long houses are thought to date back to Saxon times. This fine example is a privately-owned home, east of Exeter near the village of Woodbury Salterton.
