HMS Belfast is a cruiser that was launched from the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast in 1938. HMS Belfast saw action in World War II in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters and the Korean War.

Due to a private initiative by the HMS Belfast Trust the ship was saved from the wrecker and was opened to the public in 1971, becoming part of the Imperial War Museum in 1978.

Nine decks aboard the 187m-long ship are open to the public and give an idea of what life was like for the sailors on HMS Belfast.

The ship's mechanical systems below the waterline can also be seen as well as the upper deck including the bridge, gun platform and the main operations room. The horsepower of the mighty ship is equal to around 1,000 private cars.

HMS Belfast was home to around 950 sailors and they ate together in the Ship's Galley, which dates from a 1950's refit. Before that the men ate in smaller, more cramped messes.

HMS Belfast is popular with school parties and gives an excellent introduction to life on a British warship through original photographs, film and testimonies from the sailors who served on the ship.

UK schools and youth groups with children aged 8-18 can "Kip in a Ship" for up to three nights with breakfast included.
