Exeter Cathedral Close

The streets around Exeter Cathedral are the prettiest in the town. Cathedral Close has many fine old buildings around the green in front of the Norman-period church.

The Royal Clarence Hotel, the Bishop of Crediton's house, Mol's Coffee House, which dates from 1598, and was supposedly a haunt of Raleigh and Drake, and a number of other period piece buildings, which now house cafes and restaurants, make up the pleasant area.

Picnic on the lawn or try a pleasant pint in the nearby Ship Inn.
